How to Choose the Right Inverter Size for Your Home

kW, kVA and what actually matters

Inverter size is about one question: how much can it power at the same time? Add up the wattage of appliances you'll run simultaneously, add ~25% headroom for motor start-up surges (fridges, pumps, ACs), and you have your minimum inverter size.

Quick sizing guide for Nigerian homes

  • Up to 500W (Power Tank class): lights, fan, TV, laptop, phones — flats and shops.
  • 1.5kW (IPV-1K512U): a self-contain or small flat's essentials.
  • 3–4kW (IPV-3K24UPRO / IPV-4K24UPRO): 2–3 bedroom home — fridge, TV, fans, lights, small freezer.
  • 6kW (IPV-6K48UPRO): full family home including one 1–1.5HP AC with load management.
  • 8kW (IPV-8K48T): large home or small business — two ACs, freezer, pumping machine.
  • 12kW+ (IPV-12K48U / 3-phase models): very large homes, offices, light industrial.

The mistakes to avoid

Don't size for every appliance running at once — you'll overpay; size for realistic simultaneous use. Don't forget the battery: a big inverter with a small battery runs out fast. And don't buy an off-grid-only inverter if you want to add panels later — itel's hybrid range charges from grid, solar, and generator interchangeably.
