The five habits

• ✓1. Avoid deep discharges to 0%. Even lithium prefers stopping around 10–20% remaining; set your inverter's cut-off accordingly.
• ✓2. Keep it cool. Heat ages batteries fast — install away from direct sun and generator exhaust, with ventilation space around the cabinet.
• ✓3. Charge it regularly. Batteries left flat for weeks degrade; if you travel, leave the system charging or have someone top it up monthly.
• ✓4. Use the right charge settings. Match inverter charge voltage/current to the battery's specification (your installer sets this once — don't 'adjust' it casually).
• ✓5. Tighten and inspect annually. Loose terminals create heat and voltage drop; a yearly check of connections and cables keeps the system efficient and safe.

Lithium vs lead-acid maintenance

Tubular/lead-acid batteries also need water top-ups and equalisation charges — miss them and lifespan collapses.
